The Fresno Police Department will hold a traffic safety operation on Saturday to target dangerous driver behaviors that put bicyclists and pedestrians at risk, police said in a statement.

The enforcement effort, scheduled from noon to 10 p.m., will focus on violations such as speeding, illegal turns, failing to yield, and ignoring traffic signals or stop signs.

To reduce the risk of crashes, police urge pedestrians to use crosswalks, remain visible, and be cautious when crossing streets.

Drivers are reminded to follow speed limits, avoid blocking crosswalks, and stay alert for pedestrians.

Bicyclists must follow traffic laws, use bike lanes when available, and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Officers also said that bicyclists should not ride too closely to parked cars to avoid a driver from opening a door in their path.

The operation is funded through a California Office of Traffic Safety grant via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
