Update on Feb. 27 at 9:13 a.m.

The Fresno County Sheriff – Coroner’s Office has identified Jesus Cuevas, 40, of Reedley, as the man who died in the solo vehicle crash.

Original Story

A 40-year-old Reedley man was killed early Tuesday after his SUV veered off the road and struck a tree in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

The crash occurred around 3:15 a.m. on Academy Avenue, south of Bullard Avenue, according to authorities.

Investigators said the man was driving an Audi SUV southbound when it left the roadway and hit a large tree.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, CHP said.

Authorities said DUI may have been a factor in the crash, pending toxicology results. The investigation is ongoing.
