Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accused Sen. Bernie Sanders of being in the pocket of the pharmaceutical industry during a tense exchange at his Health and Human Services confirmation hearing Thursday, Sky News Australia reported.
Kennedy claimed Sanders received $1.5 million in pharmaceutical donations during his 2020 presidential campaign, making him the largest recipient among lawmakers.
Kennedy and Sanders shouted at each other after Kennedy made the accusation and addressed the senator as “Bernie.”
The senator then insisted his funds came from worker contributions, not pharmaceutical execs or PACs.
“I had more contributions from workers all over this country!” Sanders said. “Not a nickel from corporate PACs!”
Records show Sanders received $1.4 million from pharma-related donors in 2020, the most among sitting members of Congress, according to The Daily Mail.
