A tremendous slate of blockbusters awaits moviegoers in 2025. The films include sequels, remakes, and adaptations.

Here’s your comprehensive list of GV Wire’s highly anticipated films:

“Captain America: Brave New World”

Release Date: Feb. 14

Captain America: Brave New World” is the fourth sequel in the “Captain Ameria” franchise, a continuation of the television miniseries “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It’s the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s directed by Julius Onah.

Anthony Mackie, the original Falcon, returns as Sam Wilson and will take the mantle of the new Captain America on the big screen. Harrison Ford replaces the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, and it’ll be the first appearance of Red Hulk on film. Danny Ramriez portrays Joaquin Torres, the new Falcon.

Synopsis: “Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, finds himself in the middle of an international incident and must discover the motive behind a nefarious global plan.” (IMDb)

“Paddington in Peru”

Release Date: Feb. 14

“Paddington in Peru” is the third installment in the “Paddington” film series and is based off of Michael Bond’s beloved books about the friendly bear.

Ben Whishaw returns to voice the character. The cast includes Emily Mortimer and Antonio Banderas.

Synopsis: “Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown family in tow, the adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey.” (IMBb)

“Snow White”

Release Date: March 21

Snow White” is a live-action adaptation of the 1937 animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” This will be a reimagining of the adored fairy tale.

Rachel Zegler stars as the Disney princess with Gal Gadot portraying the “Evil Queen.” Directed by Marc Webb.

“A Minecraft Movie”

Release Date: April 4

A Minecraft Movie” is the first big-screen adaptation of the 2011 video game “Minecraft.”

The cast includes Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. Directed by Jared Hess.

Synopsis: “Four misfits are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a quest with an unexpected, expert crafter.” (IMDb)

“Thunderbolts”

Release Date: May 2

Thunderbolts” is the 36th film in the MCU and the final film of Phase Five of the MCU. Directed by Jake Schreier.

The ragtag bunch of antiheroes consists of Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastain Stan (Bucky Barnes), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Olga Kurylenko (Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster), Lewis Pullman as (Bob/Sentry), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost).

Synopsis: “A group of supervillains are recruited to go on missions for the government.” (IMDb)

“Mission: Impossible ā€“ The Final Reckoning”

Release Date: May 23

Mission: Impossible ā€“ The Final Reckoning” is a sequel to “Mission: Impossible ā€“ Dead Reckoning Part One” (2023) and the eighth entry in the “MI” franchise.

Tom Cruise returns as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Rounding out the cast are Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, and Angela Bassett. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

“Lilo & Stitch”

Release Date: May 23

Lilo & Stitch” is a live-action/CGI remake of the 2002 animated Disney classic of the same name. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp.

Chris Sanders reprises his voice role as Stitch. The cast includes Sydney Agudong, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, and Courtney B. Vance. Original cast members Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee will appear in the film.

“Karate Kid: Legends”

Release Date: May 30

“Karate Kid: Legends” takes place three years after the events of the final season of the Netflix series Cobra Kai. It’ll be the sixth film in “The Karate Kid” franchise.

Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, reprise their roles as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso. Ben Wang will be the lead debuting alongside Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. Directed by Jonathan Entwistle.

Synopsis: “Kung fu prodigy Li Fong is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City. When a friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition. Li’s teacher Mr. Han enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso for help.” (IMDb)

“From the World of John Wick: Ballerina”

Release Date: June 6

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina” is the fifth film in the “John Wick” franchise that starred Keanu Reeves, while serving as a spin-off. Directed by Len Wiseman.

Ana de Armas is the leading lady, acting alongside Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus. Anjelica Huston, the late Lance Reddick (his final screen appearance), Ian McShane, and Reeves reprise their roles from the previous installments.

Synopsis: “An assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma organization sets out to seek revenge after her father’s death.” (IMDb)

“How To Train Your Dragon”

Release Date: June 13

How To Train Your Dragon” is a live-action remake of DreamWorks Animation’s 2010 film “How to Train Your Dragon.” Both are adaptations of Cressida Cowell’s 2003 novel of the same name.

Mason Thames portrays Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III while Gerard Butler reprises his voice from the previous movies as Stoick the Vast. The cast includes Nico Parker, Nick Frost, and Julian Dennison. Directed by Dean DeBlois.

Synopsis: “Follows a young Viking as he aspires to hunt dragons, and how he unexpectedly becomes a friend of a young dragon.” (IMDb)

“28 Years Later”

Release Date: June 20

28 Years Later” is the third film in the “28 Days Later” series. Returning are director Danny Boyle, writer/producer Alex Garland, and cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle.

Cillian Murphy, the first film’s protagonist, is an executive producer. The film stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes. It’s the set-up for the already-made sequel “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” that’s set to be released in 2026.

Synopsis: “A group of survivors of the rage virus lives on a small island. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated. … ” (IMDb)

“M3GAN 2.0”

Release Date: June 27

M3GAN 2.0” is the sequel to “M3GAN” (2022) with Allison Williams and Violet McGraw returning from the first film. The cast includes Ivanna Sakhno, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement.

Returning is Amie Donald, the live actor portrayal of M3GAN, and Jenna Davis, the voice of the humanoid A.I. living robot doll. Director Gerard Johnstone and screenwriter Akela Cooper continue behind the scenes.

“Jurassic World: Rebirth”

Release Date: July 2

Jurassic World: Rebirth” is a standalone sequel to “Jurassic World Dominion” (2022), the fourth entry in the “Jurassic World” franchise and the seventh installment in the “Jurassic Park” series. Directed by Gareth Edwards.

A new cast is set to appear with Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein. Screenwriter David Koepp (“Jurassic Park,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”) returns to pen the script.

Synopsis: “Five years post-Jurassic World Dominion, an expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough.” (IMDb)

“Superman”

Release Date: July 11

Superman” is a reboot from the previous DC Extended Universe with the new franchise being the DC Universe (DCU). The new ā€œMan of Steelā€ and Clark Kent is David Corenswet. Rounding out the principal cast are Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor).

Appearing are other characters from the DC canon like Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillon), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and The Engineer (MarĆ­a Gabriela de FarĆ­a). Directed and written by James Gunn.

“Fantastic Four: The First Steps”

Release Date: July 25

Fantastic Four: The First Steps” is the 37th film in the MCU and the third iteration of the Fantastic Four film series. It’ll be the introductory film into Phase Six of the MCU. Directed by Matt Shakman.

Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) will portray the heroic family.

Ralph Ineson is the villainous Galactus and Julia Garner portrays Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer. Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne round out the cast. Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark/Iron Man in previous Marvel films, is expected to appear as the evil Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom in a post-credits scene.

“Freakier Friday”

Release Date: Aug. 8

Freakier Friday” stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan who’ll portray mother and daughter again in the sequel to Disney’s “Freaky Friday” (2003). It’s based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel and the seventh film in the franchise.

Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Lucille Soong, and Rosalind Chao reprise their roles from the original movie. Directed by Nisha Ganatra.

Synopsis: “Years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice.” (IMDb)

“Michael”

Release Date: Oct. 3

“Michael” is the biographical film of the life and career of the late great King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson (son of Jermaine) will portray him in his film debut, acting alongside Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke.

“Tron: Ares”

Release Date: Oct. 10

Tron: Ares” is a standalone sequel to “Tron: Legacy” (2010) and the third entry in the “Tron” franchise. Jeff Bridges will reprise his role as Kevin Flynn from the previous installments.

The cast includes Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Arturo Castro, Sarah Desjardins, and Gillian Anderson. Directed by Joachim RĆønning.

Synopsis: “A highly sophisticated Program, Ares, is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission.” (IMDb)

“The Black Phone 2”

Release Date: Oct. 17

“The Black Phone 2” is a sequel to “The Black Phone” (2021), which was an adaptation of the 2004 short story of the same name by Joe Hill. Director and writer Scott Derrickson returns to helm the film alongside his writing partner C. Robert Cargill.

Ethan Hawke reprises his terrifying role as the “The Grabber” with Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, and Jeremy Davies returning.

“Predator: Badlands”

Release Date: Nov. 7

“Predator: Badlands” is the seventh film in the mainline series and the ninth installment overall in the “Predator” franchise.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, following his first stint with “Prey” (2022). The film stars Elle Fanning.

“The Running Man”

Release Date: Nov. 7

“The Running Man” is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Stephen King (using the pseudonym Richard Bachman) and is the second adaptation after the Arnold Schwarzenegger 1987 film.

The film stars Glen Powell with a cast that includes Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, and William H. Macy. Directed and written by Edgar Wright.

“Wicked: For Good”

Release Date: Nov. 21

Wicked: For Good” is a sequel to the 2024 hit “Wicked,” an adaptation of the stage musical of the same name, based on the 1995 novel of the same title, that was inspired by the “Oz” books and the classic 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz.”

Reprising their roles from the previous film are Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba Thropp/Wicked Witch of the West) and Ariana Grande (Glinda Upland/Glinda the Good), with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum rounding out the cast.

“Zootopia 2”

Release Date: Nov. 26

Zootopia 2” will have audiences under arrest on Nov. 26. It’s the sequel to the 2016 Disney animated feature “Zootopia.”

Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprise their voice roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from the first movie. Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard

Synopsis: “Brave rabbit cop Judy Hopps and her friend, the fox Nick Wilde, team up again to crack a new case, the most perilous and intricate of their careers.”

“Avatar: Fire And Ash”

Release Date: Dec. 19

Avatar: Fire And Ash” is a direct sequel to “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022) and the third entry in the “Avatar” film series. James Cameron will continue to write and direct, including the two future sequels.

Sam Worthington, Zoe SaldaƱa, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, and Giovanni Ribisi reprise their characters from previous films.
