Update, 1/17/25:

Since this story first published, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer and members of his entourage said they will no longer attend the inauguration because of the venue change.

Originally scheduled to take place outside the U.S. Capitol, President–elect Donald Trump moved the ceremony indoors to the rotunda because of impending cold weather. A Dyer spoke person said there was not adequate space inside the building.

The mayor will now fly home and participate in Monday’s Martin Luther King Day activities in Fresno.

Original story:

At least Jerry Dyer and several Valley leaders will be warmer than originally thought during the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on Monday.

“No matter who you voted for, the inaugural ceremonies are proof that our system of democracy is resilient and effective. I look forward to celebrating our shared values of hard work and love for our country.” — Rep. Adam Gray, D-Merced

Trump announced Friday that he is moving the ceremony — starting at 9 a.m. Pacific Time — from outside the U.S. Capitol into the rotunda inside because of the expected freezing temperatures.

Dyer, the Fresno mayor, is already in Washington for the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting. He will be joined by his Chief of Staff Kelli Furtado, and city spokesperson Sontaya Rose.

The entire Central Valley congressional delegation will also attend. Confirming include Vince Fong, R-Bakersfield; David Valadao, R-Kings County; Tom McClintock, R-Elk Grove; Adam Gray, D-Merced, and Jim Costa, D-Fresno.

However, congressional offices said plans are still in flux with the venue change.

“I’m planning to attend the inauguration of President Trump to represent my community in the San Joaquin Valley,” Gray said. “No matter who you voted for, the inaugural ceremonies are proof that our system of democracy is resilient and effective. I look forward to celebrating our shared values of hard work and love for our country.”

Others Going From Fresno

Others from the Central Valley who say they will be there include Fresno County Republican Party Chair Liz Kolstad; state Sen. Shannon Grove, R-Bakersfield; state GOP Party Central Valley Region Vice Chair Lisa Moreno, and her children, Hadasah Moreno, Guillermo Moreno, and his wife, Estere.

For Lisa Moreno, she sees this as a networking opportunity. She plans to attend the California and presidential balls. She hopes to invite top GOP leadership to the Central Valley.

“We made great gains this past election cycle with President Trump taking increased percentages in almost all Central Valley districts by leaps and bounds. Our percentages went up for Republican turnout and percentage of votes for him. So we want to make sure that we capitalize on that,” Moreno said.

Moreno received her tickets from McClintock.

Dyer at Mayor’s Conference

On Friday, Dyer hosted a panel titled “Police Department Policies Relating to Immigrants and Homeless People,” along with Providence (Rhode Island) Mayor Brett Smiley.

In a clip shared by Dyer’s office, he talks about the homeless camping ban that Fresno enacted last year.

The mayors also heard an address by President Joe Biden. The outgoing leader talked about the goals his administration achieved for cities, including pandemic relief and job creation.
