The Cat House on the Kings, California’s largest no-cage, no-kill, and lifetime cat sanctuary based in Parlier, is urgently calling for donor support and new adoptive families.
Cat House reports that this year there have been fewer adoptions even though the number of kittens, cats, and dogs (yes, Cat House also takes canines) needing new homes has soared to its highest level ever. On top of that, donations this year have dropped by half, leaving the shelter with $1.5 million less than usual.
Many animals come in with extreme medical needs that are costly to treat. Illness in kittens and cats has been unprecedented with the population explosion. Having the new treatment for feline infectious peritonitis is expensive but gives cats like Frosty the opportunity for an illness-free life.
Other animals like Mary and Magdalene, two dogs from a homeless encampment with medical issues, have received care at Cat House.
“It is crucial for The Cat House on the Kings to get help during the end of year giving drive to raise as much as possible to balance the extreme medical cases already incurred during the year but to also cover those high costs cases still flooding in like Mary and Magdalene,” the nonprofit said in a news release.
Cat House on the Kings also is limited in taking in new animals if other animals already at the shelter are not being adopted out and if there are no funds to care for additional animals.
