The Democracy Alliance, a prominent liberal donor network, is setting its sights on reclaiming control of the U.S. House in 2026.
Following recent Democratic losses in the White House and Senate, the organization is doubling down on its efforts to secure a “robust” House majority for Democrats.
Pamela Shifman, the alliance’s president, told CNN, “The House will be a critical place where we will be able to minimize the harms of the (Trump) administration.” The group’s strategy builds on its successful 2024 campaigns in New York and California, where it invested over $11 million to flip House seats.
While no specific budget has been set for 2026, Shifman expressed confidence in their resources and momentum. The alliance, which has channeled more than $2 billion into progressive causes since 2005, boasts about 120 members who contribute significantly to advance liberal policies.
Despite a challenging political landscape, Democrats managed to gain a House seat in 2024, narrowing the Republican majority to 220-215. This margin may tighten further with expected Republican vacancies in early 2025.

The alliance’s 2024 efforts in New York and California proved fruitful, flipping seven House seats across both states. Shifman highlighted the effectiveness of field organizing by established labor and activist groups, a model they plan to expand upon.
“Close to 90 million people who were eligible to vote voted for the couch,” Shifman noted, viewing this as “an epic organizing opportunity” to broaden the Democratic voter base.
