The boy, 15 at the time of the crime, admitted to murder with special allegations that the killing occurred during a burglary and involved a firearm. He also admitted to receiving stolen property.

Authorities said the teen broke into Martin’s home shortly after midnight on Nov. 6, 2023.

When confronted, he shot Martin multiple times and fled. Later that morning, the juvenile returned to the scene with two adult men to recover the weapon and other items.

A neighbor saw the group leaving and alerted police, who found Martin dead inside. Surveillance footage led investigators to the juvenile, who was arrested at his home.

There was no evidence that Martin and his killer knew each other.

Under California law, the boy cannot be tried as an adult or face a life sentence and will remain in juvenile custody until age 25, the DA’s office said.

Two adult defendants, Jorge Luis Arrieta, 21, and Joseph Angel Garcia, 20, face separate trials for alleged crimes committed after the murder, including burglary and being accessories after the fact.
