Fabian Rene Gamez, 30, of Tulare, was arrested and booked in connection with a double homicide after allegedly breaking into a home and fatally stabbing two residents, according to the Tulare Police Department.

The incident occurred on Thursday, around 3 a.m., when police received a report of a home intruder. Officers found two victims, Melissa Quinn, 58, and Raymond Garza, 38, both of Tulare, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Both residents died at the scene, according to authorities.

During the investigation, officers discovered Gamez in the backyard. Authorities said Gamez was shot by a resident in the home after the stabbings.

Police believe Gamez entered the residence and was confronted by Quinn, whom he allegedly stabbed. Garza then attempted to intervene, resulting in another altercation in which Gamez reportedly stabbed him as well, authorities said.

Officers said a third resident, who heard the commotion, confronted Gamez while he was standing over Garza and shot him. Gamez tried to flee but was held at the scene until police arrived.

Investigators suspect that Gamez was attempting to commit a burglary in the area before unlawfully entering the victims’ home.

Gamez received medical treatment for his injuries and has since been booked at the Tulare County South Detention Facility on two counts of homicide and breaking and entering.

Gamez has a court date scheduled for Tuesday.
