The Fresno Police Department is urging families and students to lace up their sneakers for “Walk and Roll to School Day” on Wednesday.

This annual event emphasizes the importance of exercise and promotes pedestrian and road safety. The day also emphasizes the importance of healthy habits and safer routes for all students traveling to and from school.

With increased foot and bike traffic expected, the department advises drivers to stay alert, particularly near school zones. Key reminders for drivers include being prepared to stop for school buses and children crossing the street and maintaining safe speeds in school zones.

Students are encouraged to plan routes with sidewalks, use crosswalks, and make eye contact with drivers to ensure visibility.

Cyclists should ride in the same direction as traffic, and all riders should wear helmets. Wearing bright or reflective clothing is recommended, especially in low-light conditions.

Schools can register for the event at walkbiketoschool.org to track participation and support active transportation.
