If there’s a soundtrack for Fresno’s weather, it might be the Beach Boys’ “Endless Summer.”
The National Weather Service in Hanford says Fresno could set all-time heat records in the next few days, with highs climbing back into the triple-digits starting Tuesday.
You can thank — or blame — a strong and large high-pressure system stretching from the eastern Pacific to the Four Corners region of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado hundreds of miles east of Fresno, meteorologist Dan Harty said Monday morning.
The hottest day this week is forecast for Wednesday, which marks the start of the two-week Big Fresno Fair. We could see a daytime high of 104 degrees, Harty said. That would shatter the record of 101 degrees set in 2012.
Tuesday’s forecast high of 102 and Thursday’s forecast high of 103 would also set records for those days. Tuesday’s record high is 100 degrees (set in 1987), and Thursday’s record is 101 (set in 1980).
Friday’s high is forecast at 101, which will be hot but not a record-breaker. The all-time high for Oct. 4 of 102 degrees also was set in 1980.
The average temperatures this week differ significantly from the usual highs, which are typically 85 degrees from Oct. 1-3 and 84 degrees from Oct. 4-5, with averages steadily dropping throughout the month, according to the National Weather Service.
Temps Expected to Drop Over the Weekend
Next weekend’s high temperatures will drop into the high 90s and then dip to 94 degrees by Oct. 7.
And the high daytime temperatures mean those overnight lows will also climb back up into the upper 60s and low 70s, Harty said.
Is there any relief in sight? Not for a while, he said — we’re looking at a strong possibility of above-normal temperatures through mid-October.
