Gloria Garcia, 74, of Fresno, was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Blackstone and Spruce avenues, the Fresno Police Department said.

The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified Garcia as the victim on Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to the scene around 3:15 a.m. and found Garcia unresponsive in the roadway. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

A police spokesman said that the driver was traveling southbound on Blackstone Avenue and entered the intersection on a green light when Garcia stepped into the road and the driver was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting her.
