Three Kerman residents died early Friday morning after their vehicle crashed into a palm tree and caught fire on Kearney Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Dario Urena, 25, of Kerman, was driving a Honda Civic eastbound on Kearney Avenue just before 2:45 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle near Garfield Avenue.

Authorities said Urena made an unsafe left turn, causing the car to veer into the westbound lane, spin out of control, and leave the roadway. The Civic struck a palm tree and burst into flames, trapping Urena and his two passengers.

The passengers, Syrus Suniga, 21, and Joey Suniga Jr., 27, both of Kerman, also sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified those killed on Friday afternoon.

CHP investigators believe alcohol was a factor.
