Fresno Authorities Seek Man Facing Felony Child Sex Crime Charges

Authorities in Fresno are actively searching for Steven Carl Schapansky, 54, of Santa Barbara, who was reported missing in Fresno on Wednesday, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

Schapansky is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds, with blue eyes and blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a blue polo shirt, blue shorts, and white shoes.

He is wanted in Santa Barbara County on two felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, as well as 70 misdemeanor counts of electronic peeping related to his former role as a teacher at a Santa Barbara charter school.

Schapansky failed to appear for a court hearing in Santa Barbara County on Friday, leading to the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest.

He was last seen in Fresno riding a 2021 blue Honda Monkey motorcycle with California license plate 25H7377 and may have headed toward Yosemite National Park.
