State Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil’s former chief of staff, Chad Condit, has filed a lawsuit accusing her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment, Politico reported.
The complaint, filed in Sacramento Superior Court on Thursday, Sept. 5, claims that Alvarado-Gil pressured Condit into performing sex acts and then fired him when he refused.

Condit’s suit alleges that Alvarado-Gil and the California State Senate violated state employment protections.
This lawsuit follows Alvarado-Gil’s recent switch from Democrat to Republican. Alvarado-Gill criticized her former party on Fox News in August, stating, “The Democratic Party of today, in California, I do not recognize it.”

Alvarado-Gil’s office has not yet responded to requests for comment. Her attorney, Ognian Gavrilov, called the allegations “without any corroboration of evidence,” and vowed to fight the suit, labeling it “outlandish.”
Chad Condit, part of a prominent Central Valley political family, first encountered Alvarado-Gil in 2022 when she hired him for her Senate campaign after he lost in a primary for California Assembly. Condit alleges that Alvarado-Gil began “grooming” him, sharing personal details and making inappropriate advances.
By January 2023, Condit claims Alvarado-Gil’s behavior escalated, leading to a back injury and eventual hip surgery. He asserts that her advances continued, even in front of other staff, and that her retaliation included reprimanding him through Senate HR and personal accusations.
The suit names the California State Senate as a defendant, alleging it condoned Alvarado-Gil’s actions. The Senate has yet to comment on the ongoing litigation.
Condit is seeking damages for lost wages, emotional distress, and other impacts on his career.
