A man driving a go-kart who was killed last week in a hit-and-run collision was identified Monday as Kenneth Owen, 38, of Kingsburg, by the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s  Office.

A Toyota Tacoma, traveling westbound on Mountain View Avenue west of Peach Avenue, struck the go-kart from behind shortly after midnight on Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol said. The go-kart was also heading westbound but was not street legal as it lacked lights and reflectors and was low to the ground, the CHP report stated.

Owen was pronounced dead at the crash site.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma initially stopped but then fled without providing aid, authorities said.

The suspect remains unidentified and has not been located. Investigators believe the vehicle involved may be a white 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma with front-end damage. It is not known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Owen’s family has created a GoFundMe for donations to cover funeral expenses.

Got a Tip?

The CHP is urging anyone with information about the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle to contact the Fresno Area CHP at (559) 262-0400 or Valley Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867.
