For weeks, the staff at the Les Schwab tire center on Sandy Boulevard in Portland, Oregon, had their hearts tugged by the sight of two tiny dogs living in an empty field near the shop. One of these dogs, a spirited 5-pound Chihuahua, has since found a new lease on life.

The dog, now named Lester — though he prefers Les — was first spotted in January, accompanied by a small companion.

As the winter cold and rain set in, the tire center employees tried everything to catch the pair. They set traps and searched diligently, but no luck. It was a heart-wrenching sight for the team, who saw the dogs endure harsh conditions.

After a week of no sightings, only Les reappeared. He was visibly distressed and panicked without his little buddy.

One particularly cold and rainy morning, the staff found him curled up, shivering, and hidden in a bush. Finally, they secured him, marking the beginning of a brighter future for the little Chihuahua.

Despite his small stature, Les has an outsized personality. “He’s absolutely the funniest and spunkiest 5-pound Chihuahua you will ever meet,” said one of his rescuers. Les loves to play and bark at anything that catches his eye. Initially cautious around new people, he quickly warms up and forms lasting bonds.

Recently, Les returned to Les Schwab for a visit and a playful photo shoot, delighting the employees who had worried for his safety during those tough weeks.

Now in need of a forever home, Les is ready to bring joy and laughter to a new family. If you think you can handle the vibrant energy of this tiny dog with an 80-pound attitude, the rescuers want to hear from you.
