After a two-year hiatus, Toyota’s original SUV returns with a new design and new features.

According to a recent Toyota Motor North America press release, the all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, built for comfort and durability, is expected to arrive in Spring 2024 with a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $55,950. This price includes a $1,495 dealer processing and handling fee.

A legendary SUV, the Land Cruiser is known for having the latest advanced technology, high-level safety technology, and comfort for both drivers and passengers. The vehicle handles tough terrain while providing comfort for drivers with dynamic lifestyles.

What’s New?

The 2024 250 Series Land Cruiser features an electronic locking rear differential, capable of splitting power equally between its front and rear wheels. This feature improves traction and reduces wheel spin on rough ground.

Toyota has also added a front stabilizer bar disconnect mechanism (SDM). The SDM increases articulation, keeping front tires on the ground. Drivers can increase suspension flex with the push of a button.

Its Multi-Terrain Select has adjustable settings to help control wheel spin on tough terrain, such as sand, dirt, and mud.

Enhanced Frame

Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture -F global truck platform — also used with the Toyota Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra vehicles — the new 250 Series Land Cruiser provides refined handling, comfort, and capability.

Innovations in laser blank welding technology allowed the next-generation frame to increase rigidity and improve ride comfort.

The Land Cruiser’s high-strength box frame, paired with the i-FORCE Max powertrain, allows it to tow up to three tons.

Improved Comfort

The 2024 Land Cruiser’s spacious interior has five ergonomic seats, replacing the 2022 Land Cruiser’s seven seats.

The 2024 Land Cruiser houses Toyota’s latest Audio Multimedia system and an eight- or 12.3-inch multimedia touch screen. Designed and engineered by Toyota’s Texas-based Connected Technologies team, the system pairs with the vehicle’s 14-speaker JBL audio system. The system also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other features include Qi wireless charging with enhanced power output and dual USB-C charging ports for front- and second-row passengers. The Land Cruiser also features a Smart Key System with a push-button start.

With a subscription, drivers can purchase a Digital Key to connect with smartphones, allowing remote-controlled vehicle entry. Drivers can also share the Digital Key remotely with other drivers rather than giving someone their physical car key.

Additionally, there’s the key card — a smart key fob with the specs of a credit card. This form factor allows drivers to carry their key anywhere.

Original Look, Modern Feel

In a recent news release, Toyota frames the new Land Cruiser as a “nod to models of the past,” describing the boxy frames and flat roofs of the early generations, all present in the 250 Series. Toyota’s design team used specific descriptors to inspire development:

  • Authentic
  • Reliable
  • Timeless
  • Professional

Drivers of the 250 Series can expect many of the classic design features offered on the original 1958 and First Edition models, including the iconic round LED headlights and the “TOYOTA” heritage grille.

Modern features include LED Lighting, 20-inch wheels, a silhouette-shaped roof rack, and color-customizable Rigid fog lights.

Added Safety

Toyota standardizes all 2024 Land Cruisers with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a convenience and safety systems suite. These features include a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, road sign assistance, lane departure alert with steering assistance, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, and proactive driving assist.

A new addition to the Toyota Safety Sense, Proactive Driving Assist is a safety program designed to provide gentle braking and steering assistance for driving tasks like controlling the distance between other drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Additional features include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), which warns drivers of approaching vehicles, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), which detects vehicles approaching from either side while backing out, alerting drivers with visual and auditory cues.

Environmentally Conscious

The new 250 Series Land Cruiser wears Toyota’s Beyond Zero Badge. Beyond Zero is Toyota’s goal to reach beyond carbon neutrality by developing hybrid vehicles like the Land Cruiser.

The Toyota Motor North America news release cites 17 electrified vehicles, including 13 hybrid models and the bZ4X battery electric vehicle (BEV).

Guaranteed Protection

Toyota offers a 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty and an additional 60-month warranty that covers the powertrain for 60,000 miles and protects against perforation via corrosion for 60 months without a mileage limitation.

Toyota protects the Land Cruiser’s hybrid-related components for eight years, or up to 100,000 miles, while the hybrid battery’s protection spans 10 years or 150,000 miles.

Finally, the all-new 2024 250 Series Land Cruiser comes with ToyotaCare, which covers factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or when the vehicle hits 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Drivers also earn two years of unlimited mileage of Roadside Assistance when they purchase a 2024 Land Cruiser.

With an MSRP of $55,950, the SUV’s affordability may appeal to those who earn $55,000 to $60,000 per year (with good credit and stable income) or $25 an hour.
