California-based education newsroom, EdSource, has welcomed Jim Boren of Fresno to its board of directors.

Boren, who has over four decades of experience in the news business, is the founder and executive director of Fresno State University’s Institute for Media and Public Trust. He has also pioneered a student journalism program in Fresno that prepares young people of color for careers in journalism.

“We’re fortunate to have a journalism innovator and trailblazer join our board,” said EdSource CEO Anne Vasquez . “Jim’s work in the Central Valley has been groundbreaking, and it’s a region increasingly important to EdSource.”

Boren, who has covered multiple national political conventions and presidential campaigns, is also known for his efforts to enhance media literacy and combat fake news. He serves on the board of the California Press Foundation and Journalism Funding Partners, and was a Pulitzer Prize juror in 2016 and 2017.

“I am deeply privileged to be selected to the EdSource board. EdSource stands as a beacon of excellence in educational reporting,” said Boren, a former executive editor of The Fresno Bee.
