NSC Spokesperson John Kirby recently faced tough questions regarding the alleged targeting of World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza by Israel.

He was challenged by a journalist over his dismissal of the Israeli strikes on the aid workers as a “possible mistake.” The aid workers were engaged in distributing food to address famine concerns when they were attacked.

The journalist questioned Kirby on President Biden’s policy to prevent arms transfers that could lead to violations of humanitarian law, asking if killing aid workers delivering food is not considered a violation.

Kirby emphasized the ongoing investigation into the incident and the need for it to be completed and transparent to ensure accountability. He acknowledged the IDF’s admission of error and U.S. expectations for a comprehensive investigation and the necessity for measures to protect civilians and humanitarian aid workers.

The strikes, which resulted in the death of seven humanitarian aid workers, have been condemned throughout the world.
