If Christos Mavrokelos, 37, is convicted on federal theft charges, he’ll deserve entry into the Stupid Criminals Hall of Fame.

On Thursday, Mavrokelos was arrested and charged with using skimming devices at bank ATMs to lift debit card information and then steal money from people’s accounts in Clovis.

How did the FBI put together the case?

According to the criminal complaint, he left his fingerprints on skimming devices recovered by police in Clovis, Fresno, and Madera. Guess he never heard of gloves.

In addition, Mavrokelos didn’t wear a mask while pilfering the accounts.

Linking him to the skimming devices and the theft of thousands of dollars was fairly easy for the FBI special agent on the case. That’s because Mavrokelos’ mug shot was on file with the Campbell Police Department after his arrest on burglary charges in July 2021.

Read the criminal complaint against Mavrokelos at this link.

Mavrokelos faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years if he is convicted.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph Barton and Cody Chapple are prosecuting the case.
