An exhibit memorializing the 6 million Jews lost during the Holocaust at the hands of Nazi Germany opens this Sunday at the downtown Fresno library.
The exhibit opens less than a month since the Hamas terror attacks of Oct. 7 in Israel sparking the war in Gaza.
“The Americans and the Holocaust: A Traveling Exhibition” debuts at the Central Library (2420 Mariposa Street, Fresno) at 2 p.m. It runs through Dec. 30.
“Based on extensive new research of that period, ‘Americans and the Holocaust’ addresses important themes in American history, exploring the many factors — including the Great Depression, isolationism, xenophobia, racism, and antisemitism — that influenced decisions made by the U.S. government, the news media, organizations and individuals as they responded to Nazism,” a library news release said.
Fresno is one of 50 libraries nationwide to host the exhibit by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Sunday’s opening will feature Rabbi Rick Winer of Temple Beth Israel speaking and a musical performance by renowned violinist and Fresno State professor Thomas Loewenheim.
The exhibit is free and open during library hours: Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays noon to 5 p.m.
