Mohamed Abu Al-Qumsan, an Al Jazeera broadcast engineer, has suffered the loss of 19 family members, including his father and two sisters, in an Israeli airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp. Al Jazeera has publicly condemned the attack, labeling it a “massacre” and an “unforgivable act” by Israeli forces.
The Jabalia refugee camp, located in northern Gaza, is densely populated and was subjected to a devastating Israeli attack that claimed over 50 lives, according to Palestinian authorities. Rescue workers and volunteers were seen digging through the rubble with their hands in a desperate attempt to reach survivors.
This incident follows the tragic loss of the wife, son, daughter, and grandson of Al Jazeera Arabic Gaza correspondent Wael Dahdouh in a separate Israeli air raid. Dahdouh has accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilians, including women and children.
The ongoing Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip has resulted in the deaths of at least 8,525 people, including over 3,500 children, since the conflict began on October 7. The Committee to Protect Journalists reports that at least 31 journalists have been killed during this period, 26 of whom were Palestinian.
Al Jazeera has called on the international community to urgently address this grave injustice and seek justice for the families of Mohamed Abu Al-Qumsan and the many other innocent Gazan civilians who have lost their loved ones.
