Fresno Teachers Association members turned out Friday morning on sidewalks outside Winchell Elementary and other Fresno Unified Schools to provide families and students with information on why they voted to strike — unless a new contract agreement is reached before Wednesday, Nov. 1.

In a nutshell, the teachers are seeking higher pay, improved healthcare benefits, smaller class sizes, and reduced special education caseloads.

FTA President Manuel Bonilla said that teachers don’t want to strike, but are prepared to do so if the district doesn’t improve its contract offer.
