In a tragic incident in Napa County, two bicyclists lost their lives when they were hit by lumber that had shifted on a flatbed truck. The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday on the Silverado Trail, between Oak Knoll Avenue and Yountville Cross Road, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.
The Silverado Trail is a popular road for cyclists and has wide bike lanes. The Napa region attracts cyclists from throughout the country because of its temperate weather, rolling hills, and world-class wineries.
The California Highway Patrol, in a preliminary report, stated that a man from Vallejo was driving a flatbed truck northbound past Oak Knoll Avenue when the lumber he was transporting shifted, striking cyclists Christian and Michelle Deaton of Portland, Oregon.
“They were just two peas in a pod,” Carolyn Deaton, mother of Christian, told NBC Bay Area. “They just had similar personalities and characteristics and same passions about things.”
Carolyn Deaton said the couple had been married for 20 years and both worked at Nike.
