While Derek Carr may not play in the New Orleans Saints home game against Tampa Bay on Sunday, the prognosis is good for the former Fresno State quarterback.
Carr had directed the Saints to a 17-0 lead over Green Bay when he was sacked in the third quarter by linebacker Rashan Gary, landing hard on his head and his throwing shoulder. Though he didn’t have a concussion, Carr went to a hospital to have his right shoulder checked out.
Following the sack, the Packers roared back for an 18-17 victory behind a defense that shut down Saints backup quarterback Jameis Winston and an offense led by their QB, Jordan Love.
At Monday’s media session, New Orleans coach Dennis Allen delivered good news for Saints fans. Carr, the coach said, is feeling much better and the injury isn’t major (a sprained AC joint).
“We kind of dodged a bullet there in terms of any real significance,” Allen said. “We’re not making any decisions today. We’re not ruling anything out. … We’ll see where he’s at as the week goes on.”
