Helena Rhinehart, 37, of Clovis, died in a two-car collision that occurred early Tuesday morning on Highway 168 near Ashlan Avenue, authorities said.
Rhinehart was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima directly ahead of a 23-year-old Fresno man in a Dodge Charger before the fatal accident, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
The driver of the 2007 Charger lost control of the car for unknown reasons, the CHP said, veered left and right, and then struck the rear of Rhinehart’s car at about 3:10 a.m.
Both cars overturned and the drivers were pinned inside.
Rhinehart was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where she died of injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the Charger is at CRMC and recuperating from non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol, Drugs Aren’t a Factor in the Crash: CHP
The CHP said that neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the crash, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified Rhinehart as the fatal victim on Wednesday morning.
