During a three-week period ending Labor Day weekend, the Fresno Police Department arrested 101 drivers for suspected DUI,  authorities said Tuesday morning.

The enforcement efforts were part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Fresno PD and other law enforcement agencies in the U.S. put additional officers on the streets targeting impaired drivers.

Among that 101 total were 18 drivers cited for driving under the influence of drugs.

In addition to saturation patrols, Fresno PD held DUI checkpoints on Aug. 26 and Sept. 2 producing 11 DUI arrests.

Upcoming Saturation Patrol

Officials said that the next DUI saturation patrol in Fresno is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 8.

“Most Californians consider drunk driving as one of their biggest traffic safety concerns, and drunk driving crashes accounted for nearly a third (32%) of all traffic deaths in the state in 2021. This equates to about four people killed every day,” Fresno police officer Christopher Clark said in a news release.

Drivers are reminded that first-time charges for DUI in California $13,500 in fines and penalties, and could result in a suspended license.
