When former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie labeled Donald Trump a failure on Friday at the annual Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, D.C., he was booed.
Like the former president, Christie is running in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
“I’m running because he’s let us down,” Christie said of Trump, drawing boos from the crowd. “You can boo all you want. But here’s the thing, our faith teaches us that people have to take responsibility for what they do.”
Christie later received a smattering of applause for saying that the nation’s leaders shouldn’t belittle others and must lead by moral example. But he left the stage accompanied by a tepid audience reaction.
Recent polling shows Christie lagging far behind both Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis among GOP voters for the nomination.
