A storm is expected to slide into the Fresno area on Monday night and deliver about a half-inch of rain on Tuesday and perhaps a quarter-inch on Wednesday.

But, says the National Weather Service in Hanford, “this atmospheric river will not be as strong” as some of the previous atmospheric rivers to hit the Valley.

The latest weather-maker also will bring about 2 to 4 feet of snow for the southern portions of the Sierra Nevada and 1 to 4 feet in the Yosemite and central sections, the NWS said.

What’s Next After This Storm?

Fresno and surrounding communities should be dry for a spell although there could be snow showers in the Sierra over the weekend.

In addition, the Climate Prediction Center’s forecast through mid-April calls for an equal chance of wetter or drier weather than normal.

Tulare County Evacuation Orders

New evacuation orders were in place Sunday near two small Tulare County communities after a levee was breached following recent downpours.

Alpaugh and Allensworth, home to a total of about 1,400 people, were ordered evacuated because of “the possibility of residents becoming isolated due to impassible roadways,” the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Crews worked Saturday to repair a breached levee along Deer Creek just north of Allensworth, a historically Black town in southwestern Tulare County, Cal Fire spokesperson Jazz Shaw said.

First responders from dozens of agencies across the state joined the sheriff’s office to protect residents from flood waters.

On Monday, Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux urged residents to stay calm and work together.

“We will weather this storm,” he said in a Facebook post.

Madera County Sandbags

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office asked residents on Monday to plan ahead for the next storm. There’s a list of sandbag locations in the graphic below.

Expect Delays on Highway 168 in the Sierra

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says that Highway 168 to Shaver and Huntington lakes continues to be affected by the snowmelt.

There is one-lane traffic control through a washout east of Cressman road that Caltrans is working on.

“Continue to expect delays going in and out of the Shaver Lake area,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
