A street race early Monday afternoon resulted in the death of Aeneas McClain, 18, of Fresno who was driving a Dodge Charger when it crashed near Blackstone and San Jose avenues.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified McClain as the victim on Tuesday afternoon.

The drivers of two other vehicles struck by the Charger had minor injuries, said Fresno Police Lt. Bill Dooley.

The collision, which occurred at about 1:30 .m., closed both sides of Blackstone Avenue between Shaw and Barstow avenues until about 6:50 p.m.

Investigation Details Thus Far

“The investigation so far has revealed that a gray Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound Blackstone, approaching San Jose when it struck a red GMC pickup,” Dooley said. “That collision caused the Dodge Charger to spin into the oncoming, southbound lanes of Blackstone, where it struck a black GMC pickup.

“Both the black GMC pickup and the Dodge Charger came to rest at the southwest corner of San Jose and Blackstone.”

Witnesses told investigating officers that the Charger was racing a different pickup northbound on Blackstone before the collision. That pickup wasn’t involved in the fatal collision.

“Detectives are working on identifying the driver of that vehicle,” Dooley said.
