A Fresno man who recently beat stage four throat cancer and his wife have donated $2.4 million to Community Health System.

The gift from Fresno accountant Chris Morse and his wife, Michelle, benefits the Community Cancer Care Institute in Clovis.

The Morse family previously donated to CCI in memory of Chris’ father, Brian, who passed away from stage four lung cancer.

“I started this journey by giving back in April 2021 to honor my dad,” said Chris Morse. “I had no idea that I would ever get cancer, let alone get cancer six months later. I’m so grateful that someone had the vision to build this facility and that people decided to write a check, betting that we needed this facility as a community.”

After getting his throat cancer diagnosis, Morse underwent seven weeks of daily radiation and weekly chemo. He was declared cancer free after finishing the regimen.

In making the donation on Thursday, Morse said that he was grateful for excellent care from his doctors, as well as the oncology support team that kept him positive and motivated.

“We are so grateful to Chris and Michelle for their incredible generosity. Thousands of cancer patients will benefit from their philanthropy and investment,” said Katie Zenovich, senior vice president for Community Health System, in a news release.
