Mayor Jerry Dyer will meet with President Joe Biden on Friday, Jan. 20, in the White House East Room.

“Jerry, I don’t want to get you in trouble out in Fresno, California, for letting you know I actually like a Republican. But you’ve done a hell of a job.” — President Joe Biden to Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer in 2021

Biden will address Dyer and hundreds of his colleagues as part of the winter U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington.

“The President will deliver remarks celebrating the achievements of the past 18 months – including the American Rescue Plan, the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act – and focusing on the bipartisan work that needs to be done to implement these and other historic legislative victories at the local level to make a difference in people’s lives,” the White House said.

Dyer looks forward to the opportunity.

“It’s always an honor to meet the president of the United States. I look forward to hearing what he has to say and how local governments can take advantage of federal funding,” Dyer told Politics 101.

Met With Biden (Virtually) in 2021

Dyer and Biden met as leaders in August 2021 virtually, discussing the federal infrastructure bill.

Biden opened his comments by saying, “Jerry, I don’t want to get you in trouble out in Fresno, California, for letting you know I actually like a Republican. But you’ve done a hell of a job.”

This is the first time Dyer will visit with a sitting president in the White House. He has been around George W. Bush and Barack Obama when they visited Fresno, and met with Donald Trump when he was a candidate campaigning.
