A man who died after driving his car into a concrete canal abutment on East Ashlan Avenue on Thursday night has been identified as Juan Luis Guevara, 36, of Fresno by the county coroner.
Guevara’s car, an Accura TL, was torn in half by the collision, which was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 10:15 p.m.
According to the CHP, Guevara was eastbound on Ashlan, east of Academy Avenue, when the car veered onto the north dirt shoulder. The collision with the abutment ejected him from the car, and he was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.
The CHP says it is continuing to investigate the accident. It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor pending a toxicology report.
