The managers of the state power grid issued a Flex Alert for the second consecutive day starting at 4 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m Thursday.

A Flex Alert is a statewide call for voluntary conservation.

With the west baking under another heatwave, the California Independent System Operator expects high electricity demand and the tightening of available power supplies.

Cal-ISO says that more Flex Alerts are possible through the Labor Day weekend as record-setting temperatures are forecast.

Flex Alert Steps to Take

Before 4 p.m.

— Pre-cool the home by setting the thermostat to as low as 72 degrees
— Use major appliances, including washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, and stove
— Charge electric vehicles
— Adjust blinds and drapes to cover windows

From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

— Set the thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits
— Avoid using major appliances and charging electric vehicles
— Turn off all unnecessary lights
