No, you are not having a fever dream brought on by the summer’s extreme heat. It really is raining in Fresno this morning.
Monsoonal moisture from the Gulf of California brought rain across the Valley and Sierra starting Thursday night and continuing into Friday morning. The rains are forecast to taper off by midday Friday, said J.P. Kalb, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
The stagnant ridge centered over the Great Basin, otherwise known as the Four Corners where New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah meet, allowed monsoonal moisture to flow from the southeast, contributing to Friday’s damp conditions, he said.
But a shift in the high-pressure ridge that has held hot weather over our weary heads most of the summer and an approaching trough off the coast will push the monsoonal moisture eastward, Kalb said.
Temperatures, which stayed above 100 degrees for 20 days in July in Fresno, will remain in the 90s for the next few days, with a few 100s in places like Hanford, Kalb said.
