Anyone driving Highway 41 between Fresno and Paso Robles recently knows about the jarring potholes beginning north of the intersection where Hollywood legend James Dean died in an accident in 1955.
So, on Wednesday, June 22, Caltrans will close the highway in both directions between Highway 46 East and State Route 33 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a repaving project.
Caltrans spokeswoman Alexa Bertola said Monday that the road closure and detours will be well-marked for travelers.
She said that motorists heading south can detour onto Highway 33 to Highway 46 East. Northbound travelers can detour from Highway 46 East to Highway 33 North and then to Highway 41 just south of Kettleman City.

Highway 1 Bridge Construction Near Cayucus
Motorists traveling north between Morro Bay and Cayucos on Highway 1 should be on the lookout for slowing traffic near Old Creek Road. Construction on a new Old Creek Road bridge is underway and is expected to continue through spring 2023, according to Caltrans.
Work continues to replace Old Creek Bridge on Highway 1 near #Cayucos. If you’re traveling north, you will be diverted onto the southbound lanes to continue your travels north. This will be in effect until Spring 2023. @CaltransD5 pic.twitter.com/aEJoBUrAWu
