Fresno police are crediting a Valley Crime Stoppers tip for the apprehension of homicide suspect Jerry Rodriguez, 31, on Sunday.

Homicide suspect Jerry Rodriguez

Officers arrested Rodriguez at a motel near Blackstone and Barstow Avenues in connection with the shooting death of Salvador Olivera, 41, on Monday, March 28.

Authorities discovered the shooting victim after Shotspotter technology indicated that four rounds were fired at about 4:30 a.m. at an apartment complex near Ashlan and Fruit avenues.

Police believe that Rodriguez and Olivera got into an argument before the homicide. Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes said Olivera’s girlfriend had previously dated Rodriguez.
