Tax cuts are trendy in 2022. Americans accustomed to hearing politicians’ complaints about budget shortfalls are now learning their states are swimming in cash — and legislators want to share the wealth by slashing taxes on groceries, gas, income and more.
California lawmakers are floating a $400 rebate that would go to every state taxpayer to offset rising consumer prices, especially on gasoline.
As in the Golden State, many proposals across the country are also just in the planning stages. Some will peter out after political battles are fought and votes are counted. But some significant cuts have already been approved, and locals in those states are looking forward to having more cash in their pockets.
