A 21-year-old Fresno man suspected of assaulting three female Valentine’s Day street vendors and the 77-year-old father of one victim faces up to 16 years in prison.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office said Friday afternoon that Martin Chavez Jr. has been charged with four felony counts of second-degree robbery. In addition, the DA’s office notes that Chavez has prior criminal convictions and previously served prison time.
Chavez, 5-foot-9, 190 pounds, was apprehended by Fresno police after a video of the crimes were captured on video by a bystander at Tulare and Third streets.
The police department shared that video on its social media accounts and multiple tips came in.
Detectives arrested Chavez on Wednesday and he was booked into Fresno County Jail. Chavez’s bail was set at $65,000 and there is a parole hold on him.
