CBS News reports that the Department of Homeland Security is warning U.S. law enforcement agencies that a group of “freedom convoy” truckers protesting COVID-19 vaccine mandates could disrupt the Super Bowl in Los Angeles this weekend.
The bulletin, which was obtained by CBS News, says the convoy could then head east, perhaps reaching Washington, D.C. in time for President Biden’s State of the Union address on March 1.
The possible disruption is backed by right-wing politicians. Wendy Rogers, a Republican Arizona state senator, for example, tweeted that it would “partially be payback for Colin Kaepernick,” the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who called attention to racism by kneeling during the National Anthem.
If truckers shut down the Super Bowl it would partially be payback for Colin Kaepernick and the kneeling.

Ahead of the Super Bowl, DHS is adding staff to its post nearby SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. More than 500 DHS personnel are providing air and maritime security, which is standard for Super Bowls.

Truck Blockade at US-Canadian Border
Meanwhile, Associated Press reports that Ontario’s premier declared a state of emergency Friday in reaction to truck blockades in Ottawa and at the U.S. border and said he will urgently press for new legislation cracking down on those who interfere with the free flow of goods and people.
Truckers there also are protesting COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Since Monday, truck drivers protesting Canada’s pandemic restrictions and railing against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have bottled up the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor to Detroit. Hundreds of others have paralyzed downtown Ottawa over the past two weeks.
