Ten city blocks in Turlock were cordoned off and officers from various law enforcement agencies from throughout Stanislaus County were searching for the suspect, Turlock police Capt. Steve Williams said at an evening news conference.

Residents were urged to stay indoors, he said.

CHP Was Investigating Earlier Shooting

CHP investigators were looking into a freeway shooting that occurred Wednesday evening and on Thursday found what they believed to be the suspect’s car along High Street in Turlock, Williams said.

As they approached, someone began shooting at them, Williams said.

Officer OK, Resting at Home

They returned fire and the attacker ran off but moments later, a second person fired several gunshots, wounding a CHP investigator, who was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury, Williams said.

On Friday, the Turlock Police Department said the CHP officer was resting at home and expected to make a full recovery, KCRA reported.

Other investigators caught and arrested the first shooter, who wasn’t injured, Williams said.

“It is our understanding that the officer is OK,” the county Sheriff’s Department tweeted.
