The Alliance for Medical Outreach & Relief is partnering with Centro La Familia and other local groups to host Trunk or Treat today in Mendota.

The event at the AMOR Wellness Center is 3 p.m.- 6 p.m. There will be a variety of entertainment options, as well as free candy and COVID-19 vaccinations.

With COVID a threat to community health, the idea behind Trunk or Treat is offering an alternative to door-to-door trick or treating. The center is at 121 Belmont Ave.

A Variety of Entertainment

Local organizations will have cars decked out in Halloween décor lined up in parking lots while they pass out candy. There will be a costume contest, bike raffle, and flamenco dance performance.

Community members ages 12-up can receive a dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine during the event. The vaccines will be provided by the Fresno County Department of Public Health while the vaccine clinic will be managed by AMOR with the help of Dr. Marcia Sablan of Firebaugh and a volunteer nurse.

AMOR spokesperson Yesenia Fuentes says walk-ins are welcome and appointments can be made by visiting myturn.ca.gov.

AMOR and Centro La Familia have teamed on numerous events in the Valley. Among them: food distributions, legal service clinics, and parenting workshops.

“Our goal is to bring the community of Mendota together in a safe and fun environment while educating them about the resources available to them at the AMOR Wellness Center,” said Fuentes.

AMOR Offers Essential Services to Communities

AMOR also has provided personal protective equipment to first responders on the front lines. It received $48,000 from the Granville Homes Central Valley COVID-19 Relief Initiative and was tasked with helping medical organizations in need of supplies.

“Community events bring diverse people, from different parts of the city and surrounding areas, together to give them the opportunity to foster new relationships,” said Fuentes. “It’s especially important that organizations like AMOR, Centro La Familia, and partner community benefit organizations at AMOR Wellness Center host events like this.”

Participating Local Organizations

Other participating agencies in Trunk or Treat: Crescent View West Public Charter School, Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, All4Youth, Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission, Girl Scouts of Central California South, Marjaree Mason Center, and the Mendota Police Department.
