In a change in course, the Visalia Unified School District has stopped releasing the number of students affected by quarantines of its classrooms.

VUSD quarantined an additional classroom on Tuesday, but didn’t provide the number of students affected by the closure.

District spokesperson Kim Batty had been releasing the numbers since elementary schools reopened on Dec. 7. The practice stopped with the latest quarantine.

Batty says the district will no longer release numbers “due to confidentially.” She declined to explain what led to the change.

Some VUSD staffers have called on the district to be more transparent when disclosing statistics related to classroom closures.
