The National Weather Service in Hanford predicts that rain will quench the parched Valley floor and drop snow in the Sierra starting Sunday.

But the NWS forecast isn’t certain about how much precipitation there will be after New Year’s Day.

“The forecast becomes very difficult after Friday,” the NWS said in its Tuesday discussion.

What is expected: A series of weather fronts will move through the area Sunday through Tuesday and there could be heavy precipitation at times.

“At this time we are trending towards … the wetter solutions,” the NWS said.

Rainfall Less Than Half of Normal Thus Far

Fresno has received 1.04 inches of rain this water season, which began in July and will end in June 2021. That compares to a “normal” of 3.66 through the end of December.

Meanwhile, Weather Underground calls for high temperatures in the mid-50s and lows in the mid-30s to low 40s over the next 10 days. That forecast calls for rain showers totaling more than 1 inch Monday through Thursday of next week.
