An assistant manager at the Walmart on Herndon Avenue in Clovis was arrested Wednesday for alleged bank and credit card fraud totaling at least $100,000, federal authorities said.

“None of the charges brought against Ms. George are connected to Walmart or her work for Walmart.” — Walmart spokesperson

The arrest of Alena Nicole George, 42, came after a federal grand jury in Fresno brought a five-count indictment against her in March.

A Walmart spokesperson told GV Wire℠ on Thursday that “none of the charges brought against Ms. George are connected to Walmart or her work for Walmart.”

Targeted People With Similar Names

According to court documents, George obtained the identity information of people with names similar to her name and obtained credit cards in their names. On one of those credit cards, George made at least $100,000 in fraudulent purchases and cash advances.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Vincente Tennerelli and Joseph Barton are prosecuting the case.
