Twenty residents have now died from a COVID-19 outbreak at a Visalia nursing home, officials reported Friday.
The deaths of two more residents of Redwood Springs Healthcare Center were confirmed by a spokesman for the facility according to a report by the Associated Press.
The outbreak at the facility is among the most severe among nursing homes in California. A total of 109 residents, 55 staff, and eight others associated with the facility tested positive for COVID-19, according to figures released by health officials earlier this week.
Tulare County Reports 28 Deaths from COVID-19
One additional COVID-19 death not associated with Redwood Springs was also reported in Tulare County on Friday. The virus has now killed a total of 28 people in the county.
“Out condolences continue to go out to the families of those that have lost loved ones or friends during this difficult time,” said Tim Lutz, Tulare County Health and Human Services director in a video posted to Facebook.
Lutz said Tulare County has confirmed 19 additional COVID-19 infections since Thursday, bringing the area total to 472 confirmed cases. He said 536 patients are quarantined and being monitored. Lutz also reported that 83 people in the county have recovered from the disease.
