Federal CARES Act funding totaling more than $30 million is headed to eight Valley airports to help ease COVID-19 business impacts and prevent job losses.
The office of Rep. Jim Costa (D-Fresno) announced the grants Friday.
Merced Regional Airport and Fresno Yosemite International Airport will receive a combined $29.82 million.

“We will put this money to good use while operating and managing our airport. This grant will put many local residents to work as we move out of the current crisis.” — Merced Mayor Mike Murphy
“We want to thank Rep. Jim Costa, for helping to secure this funding during these difficult times,” said Merced Mayor Mike Murphy. “We will put this money to good use while operating and managing our airport. This grant will put many local residents to work as we move out of the current crisis.”
Merced Airport Grant is Nearly $17 Million
Merced’s airport is designated for $16,885,618 and Fresno Yosemite International’s grant is $12,935,441.
“As an essential service provider, Fresno Yosemite International Airport is also a major economic engine for the region,” said Kevin Meikle, director of aviation for FYI. “The dedicated airport grant funding through the CARES Act ensures Fresno Yosemite International Airport will be able to continue operating during the crisis and as we begin to recover.”
Said Costa: “Our aviation industry is just one of many suffering profound economic losses during this health crisis. These grants will help make up for the heavy losses suffered from the sharp decline in business operations and help prevent thousands of workers from losing their jobs.”
Madera Municipal Airport’s grant is $69,000. Five other airports in Madera and Merced counties will receive $30,000 each.
