The Muslim Society of Central California will host a free medical and dental clinic on Sunday at Manchester Center in central Fresno, with more than 45 physicians and nurse practitioners volunteering their health care services and 150 other people volunteering in other capacities.
“Usually the health fairs are screening health fairs … with maybe one specialist,” he said. “Here we have almost 13, 14 specialists.”
Most of the patients — Ashraf expects 400 to 500 will come to the event — will start out seeing an internist, eye doctor and dentist, and then will be referred to specialists such as a cardiologist, pulmonologist, or dermatologist, as needed.
Open to All
The clinic is available to everyone, no matter their income level, their citizenship status, or whether they have insurance, he said.
Having access to specialists can be crucial for low-income people, he said, because “the wait to see an eye doctor, a dermatologist, or a podiatrist is months.”
Holy Cross Clinic at Poverello House has volunteered to do follow-ups with the patients to make sure their care continues, Ashraf said.
The clinic will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Manchester Center, 1901 E. Shields Ave., Fresno. No appointments are necessary.
The Muslim Society of Central California has been hosting health clinics for the past decade, Ashraf said. They are typically held in April and October.
