Amongst the “shopperati,” this is big news: Aldi is opening its Clovis supermarket on Thursday, Oct. 10.
And if you’re one of the first shoppers through the doors on opening day, you might win a Golden Ticket (not the Willy Wonka kind).
Listen to this article:
The Germany-based grocery chain, best known for its store brands, lower-priced store specials and rentable grocery carts (shoppers pay 25 cents to take a cart but get the quarter back upon its return), has been long-awaited in the Fresno area by grocery store fans.
Aldi already has two South Valley stores, in Hanford and Porterville.
Ribbon-Cutting Is Thursday
The Clovis store at 1725 Herndon Ave., west of Fowler Avenue, will celebrate its grand opening at 8 a.m. on Oct. 10 with a ribbon-cutting and the Golden Ticket giveaway of gift cards to the first 100 customers. Normal store hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
The new store is part of a $3.4 billion expansion to 2,500 stores nationwide by the end of 2022.
In addition to the Golden Ticket giveaway, shoppers can enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year’s supply of Aldi produce and can receive a reusable shopping bag. Aldi-brand foods also will be available for sampling.
“We pride ourselves on saving people time and money, and we can’t wait to provide Clovis residents with a grocery store that meets their needs,” said Tom Cindel, Moreno Valley Group Director of Operations and Logistics for Aldi.
Large Selection of Fresh Foods
The new store will include expansive refrigeration space to accommodate Aldi’s recent 40% increase in its fresh food selection.
October’s offerings will include Halloween-themed cheeses such as Scary Pumpkin Spice Wensleydale and Bat Knit Crazy Cheddar.
Insider Tips for Aldi Shoppers
And if you’re looking for insider Aldi tips, consider these from shopping maven Katie Workman on the Food52 website:
• Pay attention to the Aldi Finds that are offered for limited time at low prices. If you like them, buy them in bulk because they might not be there on your next shopping trips.
• Make sure to bring your own bags – Aldi’s doesn’t provide any.
• Aldi’s house brands include L’Oven Fresh, Pueblo Lindo, Clancy’s, and Deutsche Kuche, for bakery goods, Hispanic foods, snacks and German foods.
• Taking a leaf out of the Costco playbook: If you’re unsatisfied with an Aldi item, return it for a full refund. Aldi also replaces the item you’re returning.
